West Africa Group of Ambassador commends President Bio for his role as Chairman of the UN Security Council for August

The West Africa Group of Ambassadors (WAGA) in Belgium has paid a courtesy call to Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium Ambassador Samuel Tamba Musa at the Mission in Brussels.

During this courtesy call from the group including; Ambassadors from Ghana, The Gambia, ECOWAS and Burkina Faso used the opportunity to commend President Julius Maada Bio for Sierra Leone’s membership of the UN Security Council and the message of unity and preached by the President during his reign as Chairman of the Council.

During his brief on the purpose of the courtesy call, the Coordinator of the WAGA Ambassador. expressed his appreciation on behalf of his colleagues “And we come to express to you and to your staff members our congratulations on the occasion of the celebration of the Independence Day of the Republic of Sierra Leone. We came late before, but due to time constraints, we chose this time to come in, to express our solidarity and to present our best wishes of peace and prosperity to you, to your government, and to the people of your country”.

Echoing that the visit is in the spirit of solidarity and fraternity, expressing his appreciation for the membership of Sierra Leone and the chairmanship of your country to the UN Security Council “that will present the interests of West Africa and our continent to this important body of UN-reunited organization”

The Ambassador expressed congratulations and best wishes for Sierra Leone’s future, particularly in its role as a member of the UN Security Council, which carries significance for the region as it advances the interests of West Africa and the continent on the global stage.

In his statement, Ambassador Samuel Tamba Musa welcomed the delegation with deep appreciation for their visit, emphasizing the importance of their solidarity, even though the celebration of Sierra Leone’s Independence Day had passed. This visit is recognized as an act of commitment to the West African group’s cooperation and brotherhood.

He said the visit is significant as it serves as Action Plan of one of the proposals he made while as chair of the WAGA we are deeply gratified that you featured this into your program and today you are here to implement it “so we are grateful to you for representing the West African group of ambassadors on this initiative. This is a strong or a powerful show of solidarity with the embassy.”

Ambassador Musa explained that for Sierra Leone, “Independence Day celebrations are moments when we celebrate our achievements and confront the challenges that we face. And normally we use it to showcase the successes, the transformation taking place in the country and share it as widely as possible”.

The Ambassador Musa further highlights two key achievements in Sierra Leone that resonate with the values of equality, education, and empowerment: the introduction of free quality education for millions of children and the signing of the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Act, which reserves 30% of appointed positions for women. These accomplishments align with global Sustainable Development Goals and demonstrate Sierra Leone’s progress toward inclusive growth and gender representation.
